Description:	HPC Foods, Ltd. was founded as Honolulu Poi Company. It started as a small poi milling operation with 3 employees and has grown to be the state’s largest poi manufacturer and a major developer of taro and poi based products. In the early 1960’s the company entered the market of growing sprouts and has become the largest sprouter in Hawaii. To fully utilize the growing fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks, the company also pursued distribution of products manufactured by other local and mainland companies As part of its diversification program, new taro by-products were created. Taro Pancake Mix, Taro Bread Mix, and Hawaiian Poi Powder were added to the growing list of products. In May, 1999, a full-time baker was hired to start the “Taro Brand Bakery”. New products such as Taro Pan and Taro Haupia Pie were well-received by the public. To offer fresh baked products to the public, “Taro Brand Store” was opened on October 22, 2001 at 1613 Homerule Street. At the same time another new product,Taro Mochi, was also introduced and became in great demand, especially during the holiday season.
