| Description: | Lifeline of the Hawaiian Islands Since 1900, Young Brothers has grown to become Hawaii's foremost inter-island freight handling and transportation company. With its involved, dedicated and skilled people and full fleet of barges, tugs, and shoreside equipment, it offers fast, frequent and reliable service to the ports of Nawiliwili on Kauai, Kahului on Maui, Kaunakakai on Molokai, Kaumalapau on Lanai, Honolulu on Oahu, and Hilo and Kawaihae on the Island of Hawaii. Founded by Herbert, William and Jack Young, the company was incorporated in 1913. It got its start by providing ocean transportation services between Oahu and Molokai. Later, Hawaiian Tug & Barge was formed as a sister company to separate harbor operations and charter activities from Young Brothers' inter-island freight operations. In 1999, SaltChuk Resources, Inc. of Seattle, Washington, acquired Young Brothers and selected assets of Hawaiian Tug & Barge from Hawaiian Electric Industries. Together, Young Brothers and Hawaiian Tug & Barge operate a fleet of 10 barges and 13 tugs. |
