| Description: | International Design Sources was founded in 1987 to represent six furniture manufacturers and two fabric houses in serving the high-end residential trade. The company was purchased by the present owner, Cindy Way, in 1990. She immediately began increasing the lineup of manufacturers by adding additional furniture manufacturers and lighting companies, with emphasis on contract/hospitality manufacturers, and added more fabric houses to increase showroom traffic. The company has always been "to the trade only," selling to interior designers, architects, purchasing companies, and the hospitality trade. Because of Hawaii's remote location and shipping logistics, Ms. Way considered only quality manufacturers, researching each company selected for representation for financial strength, quality assurance, and delivery reliability. This was usually followed with a factory tour. Because of the importance of the tourist industry to Hawaii's economy, the primary focus when adding new lines has been toward hospitality applications. Ms. Way annually attends the New York Hotel Show and the Las Vegas Hospitality Design Expo, and has attended many other regional and national product shows in New York, Europe, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and High Point to meet with manufacturers, view new products, and attend product seminars. International Design Sources has always been considered an industry leader in Hawaii and enjoys a national reputation for product knowledge, excellent service, and professionalism. In addition to the main showroom at the Gentry Pacific Design Center in Honolulu, Ms. Way established a second, unmanned, showroom on the island of Maui. This showroom, unique to the industry, is well-stocked with furniture and fabric samples and manufacturers' catalogs, as well as a telephone and fax machine for the convenience of her clients on that island, who are furnished the combination to the lock on the showroom door, and are free to check out fabric samples and catalogs, and return them, all on the honor system. |
